What is vector art?
Let's first describe what a vector is:So how does a vector apply to art?
It's simply art made with vectors! i.e."mathematic equations and geometric primitives (points, lines, and shapes)." Unlike raster image art, vector art can be "scaled infinitely, without any loss of quality or fidelity." (source) As you zoom into raster art, the individual pixels become visible.Selfies vs. Self Portraits
Ask anyone, especially a millennial, they'll tell you a selfie is a picture you take yourself, usually with a smartphone and shared via social media.
A self portrait just sounds more artistic. A portrait typically contains the head, neck and shoulders. A self portrait is a portrait the artist creates of themselves.
Both essentially depict the self in a wanted, specific way. The major difference is the permanence of the image portrayed. Selfies are incredibly impermanent; if it is unfavorable it can easily be deleted and retaken. A self portrait, however, has many, many decisions that must be made as it is created. They're meant to last.
Self Portrait Artists

They're all really fun to look at and effortlessly made. I watched one of the behind the scenes videos and it's so cool to see the whole process. if this is what our next project will be like, I'm super excited. These are such imaginative concepts!
2. Sebastien Del Grosso
What caught my attention was his combining traditional and digital art, because I love traditional just as much as digital! This interests me because the paper background makes the figures look flat even thought I know they're three dimensional.
3. Vivian Maier
The black and white intrigued me as well as the use of mirrors to show her reflections. Typically facial features are commonly used in self portraits, however some of her's are of her shadow, which i found quite interesting and innovative.
4. Sasha O
I love the expressiveness and emotions in each piece. It seems like she's not afraid of trying new things and being creative with her work. I just think they're interesting to look at. Some of them are really elegant and some are really bright and fun.
5. Trish Morrissey
This was a little weird, and I liked it; in this particular project she walked around a beach and asked families if she could take family portrait style photos with them in their clothes. I don't have the courage to do that normally, but maybe I would if I had a project purpose in mind like her. What's so funny to me is how well she blends in with the families!
