Project Two WIP

Howdy I didn't sleep at all last night. But it's cool, I'm fine; I think I slept 10 or 11 hours Saturday night. So I was having great frustrations with this pen tool (of course) but then it clicked in my head and everything made sense and I got so excited and I think I made something pretty cool. Here ya go:  Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Heather Macali

I'm excited to go to the artist talk with the class tomorrow! I've never attended one before and it's a pleasant surprise to know there'll be snacks. I'm also excited to meet the artist; I might ask for an autograph, haha.  I thought her artist statement was really well written and easy to follow. But besides the technicalities, I appreciate her fondness of childhood and the energy and color that's associated with it, and wanting to honor that in her art. It felt like a total throwback because I used to be really into the Carebears too. When I initially walked through the gallery prior to reading the artist statemen t I could feel that 80s vibe from the colors. The shapes, however, felt really modern; it got me like a really good plot twist. Now knowing the intent of the artist, I can more easily connect the psychedelic colors and patterns to the pieces. I can also relate strongly to her statement,  " I view pattern as a visual language that can c...

Vectors and Selfies

What is vector art? Let's first describe what a vector is: Which is also what  dictionary.com  defines it as. So how does a vector apply to art? It's simply art made with vectors! i.e."mathematic equations and geometric primitives (points, lines, and shapes)." Unlike raster image art, vector art can be "scaled infinitely, without any loss of quality or fidelity."  ( source )  As you zoom into raster art, the individual pixels become visible. Selfies vs. Self Portraits Ask anyone, especially a millennial, they'll tell you a selfie is a picture you take yourself, usually with a smartphone and shared via social media.  A self portrait  just sounds more artistic. A portrait typically contains the head, neck and shoulders. A self portrait is a portrait the artist creates of themselves.  Both essentially depict the self in a wanted, specific way. The major difference is the permanence of the image portrayed. Selfies are incredibly imperma...

Project One WIP

It is difficult to portray a world where everything is 60% larger. What are small objects that would be especially surprising to see as larger? How much larger is 60%? How can I still portray a natural perspective with objects of abnormal proportions? I really liked the background I put together, but I couldn't think of objects to put in. I chose the girls on the swan only because the planet I chose (Kepler 425b) is in the constellation Cygnus which is a swan.  I liked the idea of a giant swan... but it doesn't seem to fit the scene so well. None of the images go together very well. Then I found a picture of a woman and a baby and I thought I could use that... I think a soft looking ground is cool and very alien. So I did some variations with it and the background is what's giving me trouble now.
